The Philippine Science Centrum has recently launched a new gallery dedicated to biotechnology and bioethics last September 18, 2009. The Biotechnology and Bioethics Exhibition provides visitors with knowledge about the benefits and risks of biotechnology and other technologies. Various interactive graphic panels and realia are set up to exhibit these information.
The gallery has exhibits pertaining to the ethics of Science and technology as they relate to Agriculture, Energy, Animal Rights, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), Nanobiotechnology, Genetic Medicine, Gene Therapy, Stem Cells, and Cloning.
The exhibit is timely in a sense that science educators can now enhance their students' critical and creative thinking about technology. We usually watch, listen, and read about the perks of new technology but seldom do we discover the ethical issues that surround it. I strongly recommend this exhibit not only to educators but to my fellow parents as well.
The Philippine Science Centrum is located at the E-Com Building, Riverbanks Center, Barangka, Marikina City. It is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 Monday to Saturday. For more information, you can visit their website.
