Number Coding Scheme in Pasig City

The moment I was most afraid of has happened. The number coding scheme in Pasig City is again implemented after four years!

In August 2005, former Mayor Vicente Eusebio found the number coding scheme of the Manila Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA) to be ineffective in easing traffic. The number coding scheme in the city was then suspended to serve the interest of the public. The suspension was not publicly announced initially but the Pasig townsfolk and locals of nearby towns have been used to the "number coding less" days. I am one of those people because I live in Cainta and my work is in Pasig City.

Much to my dismay, and I think to other people's dismay as well, the number coding scheme has been once again implemented in the city. I heard the news over Unang Hirit as early as August 14, 2009 but the public was advised that the number coding scheme will take into full effect come Monday, August 17, 2009.

The ban of prohibited cars will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The affected car owners are advised to take advantage of the "window hours" in driving through the roads within the city's limits. The list of cars with plate ending in numbers that are prohibited in the streets of Pasig City follows our usual MMDA number coding scheme. Pasig Traffic and Parking Management Officer Chief Victor Barral said that the city will conduct a massive information campaign so the public will know.

Hi, thanks for this very informative post. I am really having a difficult time trying to find an official memorandum from the city governments of Metro Manila.
